Late for Lunch and Personalities

By Barb Gordon

Have you ever missed a lunch date with a friend? I burned the same friend twice! In a row! I guess my conversation with my intern distracted me so much that we went to lunch at the wrong place.

What were we talking about that was so interesting? We were discussing Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a personality test designed to assist you in identifying some significant personal preferences. It is very helpful in understanding these preferences when dealing with other people whether it is a marriage, with coworkers, or friends. I find it helpful to think about my clients this way as well.

It is very detailed and is best done with a qualified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Administrator but my young intern was interested to know her type that she found an on line version. Here is the link: http://www.developandgrow.com/lifecoach/blog/free-on-line-myers-briggs-personality-tests/ This on-line version will give you a little taste of what you might learn and you can determine if you are interested enough to know more. I am glad I was able to bring an administrator to the studio and do a group event with my team. It was helpful to have the personal touch.

It turns out that my intern is opposite me in all areas! It has made for additional interesting conversations. As for my lunch date friend, she is giving me another chance, she must be a “Feeling” type, lucky for me.

Let me follow up with this thought: These FREE tests are not the BEST way to go because they cause most people who use them to misinterpret their true type and then it gives MBTI (Myers-Briggs) and all other personality tools a bad rap.

This is as frustrating to them as in our field of photography. It is kind of like trying to take your own headshot or family photos, instead of hiring the professional!

My apologies to the qualified administrators of these assessment tools that work so diligently to do it right.
